A pair of trumpet-blown cow horns of the Swedish type ("vallhorn"), with 3 finger holes. The horns are from the same animal and both tuned in C. This makes them perfect for playing together!

The cow horn is one of the oldest Nordic wind instruments, with finds dating as far back as the 6th century in Sweden. It has been an important instrument in Swedish summer-farming culture («fäbodkultur»), where the dairymaids used the horn for various purposes. Women were often the foremost performers of horn playing, since they had responsibility for the livestock on the summer pastures.
